Lithium-ion polymer batteries are now used within a wide range of products from mobile phones to computers as they can be smaller, lighter and more powerful than common lead acid batteries. Lithium Iron Phosphate (LIP) is currently the most common Lithium battery used in Ebike applications. It is considered the most stable of the Lithium battery types available today offering a low risk of fire and a high life expectancy of up to 1000 charges You will see the names Lithium or Lithium-ion Polymer, Li-ion, Lipo, LIP, LIB, Li-Poly being used but they essentially mean the same thing, a rechargeable battery that uses Lithium-ion technology using a polymer electrolyte instead of a more common liquid electrolyte. Samsung / Panasonic or other branded cell versions are simply better quality which should result in longer battery life and maybe some improved performance during use. Chinese cell batteries work exactly the same but tend to be cheaper as they are not branded or made in most cases to the same quality standard; that said most electric bicycles use Chinese cell batteries as standard and they are pretty good. Always remember a battery that is just 15% more expensive to make can end up costing 50% more when it comes to the sale price as branded equipment attracts a higher price and so extra duty and vat is applied to them on import.
